Two wings lift a person up from earthy concerns: simplicity and purity. Simplicity should be in intention, purity in feelings. Simplicity reaches out after God, purity catches hold and tastes. ~ Thomas A’Kempis

An obsession with fabric...

I thought I'd share some of my sewing projects...things I've made over the last year or so, and new things about to be made.
The first quilt I made (Rail Fence Design). This quilt is on a little bed in my 'Amish room', so called because its decorated with all my trinkets from my travels in Amish Country OHIO (2008/2009) .
Quilt no. 2 - 'Memories of America' (note the red/white & blue theme). I made this quilt from recycled mens business shirts (the blue & green stripe fabrics) I purchased the red joining strips and the backing material. I had this quilt professionally quilted.

This is the most recent quilt I designed. I made it for my little newborn grandaughter Lily Elizabeth Jane, born July 2nd 2010. I did all the piecing, but had it professionally quilted. I don't have the patience or the right equipment to do it myself.

Now scattered around the house I have various fabrics that I plan on making some new cushion covers with..a mix of applique and patchwork of my own designs. Maybe some pretty pot holders or placemats too??

I recently had a big wardrobe designed and built in a room I call my office. Its painted in a lovely deep cream shade and inside are lots of cubicle style shelves. I purchased a whole lot of clear plastic containers and store all my fabrics stacked in them, colour co-ordinated of course :0)..fun fun fun..

A Poem: The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me

and I wake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,

I go and lie down where the wood drake

rests in his beauty on the water, and the green heron feeds.

I come into the place of wild things

who do not tax their lives with forethought

of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting with their light.

For a time

I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
