Hi everyone, just popping on here quickly to share a quote that was in my inbox today...when I read it..I said out loud "so true !!" You might appreciate it's wisdom too.
A Longer Lens, by Collin Huber
One of the advantages that comes with age is the ability to view life through a longer lens. I’ve witnessed this in grandparents and other seniors who have played influential roles in my life. Without their model, I don’t know where I would have learned to believe that a prodigal child can be restored; that marriage is a gift of grace, even in hard seasons; that hope for calmer waters in difficult times is no trivial posture, but a mighty act of faith.
The image of this elderly couple out for a walk brought this to my imagination: They live in a small retirement home now, but are walking past their old large home they once owned, that they raised a family in. At once the wife is transported back in time and can see it all over again as if it was yesterday. She can hardly pull herself away.

ReplyDeleteOh the lady's expression looking upon her home, it gets to me. It reminds me of the old movie, 'Marty', with Ernest Borgnine. His Italian mama laments that no more children are in the house... Just today I had the pleasure of watching one of my little grandbaby boys, almost two. It was so nice to sit with him and play stickers and puzzles and wash dishes together...I now value those moments so much.
I also value my time with my husband, many times just the two of us...I can relate to maybe how those couples feel through time. A lot of wisdom and love there....yes indeed.

DeleteYou're right of course about the lens. I'm 55. There are things I no longer get upset about. But, there are many more things that my lens and my faith need to grow in.
ReplyDeleteI love the little story you shared of the last couple. Is it not intriguing to gaze at old photos and imagine what may have been going on? Perhaps that's how some writers get their inspiration.

Thank you for your sweet comment Laura :) I love to make up stories from photos ! Great photography takes an artists eye (in my opinion) and it does inspire, so no doubt your right. My daughter takes such great photo's of her children. She uses a filter and seems to caption them in so many special ways - it's a gift x Blessings to you

ReplyDeleteI have been commenting on your youtube recipe videos and I do like your blog, so it was time I began commenting here too. As each year passes I am reminded how fleeting life is, and how precious it is from the time of conception until the time "the length of your days" has drawn to an end. Even in my present age I am seeing that wider lens of perspective, this is a great blessing of aging.
